 Meet CMC

We work things out. Nearly 90% of the people the Community Mediation Center works with say that, as a result of our mediation services, they reach some form of agreement. People benefit when they are not tied up in lengthy, stressful and costly fights or court battles.

We give people power. In follow-up surveys, nearly 75% say that CMC mediation services gave them a sense of control. In times of crisis and stress, people feel overwhelmed and stuck, or out of control; CMC Mediation is the best process to get clear about the issues and make good decisions.

We deliver effective training. In addition to recognized training for mediator certification, the Community Mediation Center offers specialized training for business and organizational settings.

Mission Statement The Community Mediation Center in Harrisonburg provides regional leadership in dispute resolution and restorative justice services and training. Our mediation, facilitation and training services enable individuals, families, businesses, organizations and communities to work together, to prevent destructive conflict, and to transform conflict into opportunities for positive change and growth. By working in conjunction with the judicial system, our restorative justice program provides a constructive framework for peacemaking and reconciliation between victims and offenders of a crime or wrongdoing. To sustain our work CMC will:

  • Seek opportunities for providing comprehensive services.
  • Advance the influence of dispute resolution and restorative justice within the judicial process and communities we serve.
  • Stand as a financially independent, non-profit organization that encourages volunteerism and financial support from our local community.
